Mission Statement
NBCCY (Northcote Baptist Church Chinese Youth) is a group of energetic, joyful, and loving young people from early teens to newlyweds, who identifies with their Chinese heritage as well as the western values and New Zealand (Aotearoa) as a home.
It is an open, Baptist Christian home that loves and serves God, one another and the wider community in unity, which is passionate about evangelism, and cultivates and educational environment to grow people in a balanced and holy lifestyle, as an integral part of the Northnote Baptist Church, and the Chinese Fellowship within it.
A Bit History
…
The humble beginning of NBCCY can be traced all the way back to 1993, when a group of young chinese students in Northcote Baptist Church began meeting in Takapuna, kindly accommodated by Alex and Grace Kao. As the church grows, so did the number of young people, which finally led to the creation of Northcote Baptist Church Chinese Fellowship Youth Group (a mouth full), under the guidance of Pastor Richard Ting and his lovely wife Seok Ai, in 1995.
In the years that followed, God blessed NBCCY with exponential growth, largely through the relentless effort by Benjamin Wu and Paloma Wong, whose dedication to youth and unconditional love drew countless young students to call NBCCY their home, and nurtured many young Christians who committed their lives to God and this church for the years to come.
Since then, despite many turbulent years without any pastoral or adult supervision, NBCCY persisted through changing leadership, inner strife at church and even spiritual confusion cast by cults, and rose above the challenges to become a mature organisation run entirely by youth, for youth while remaining an integral part of the larger NBC Chinese congregation. To this day, the youth at NBCCY has independently overseen the creation of its own worship band, creative art projects, countless community events and its popular annual youth camp, all through an environment that foster self development of youth for God’s kingdom.
The term “Agape” was coined by Pastor Victor Tan, from the Greek term depicting the unselfish love from God for all mankind. Throughout the years, NBCCY strives to live by the example of Christ in sharing His unconditional forgiveness and love with our community, and it is in the spirit of Agape that we exist to this day, to provide a home for young people to learn the secret to life’s purpose and unabashed joy: IGNITE: In God’s Name I Trust Everyday

Main Strategic Plans to achieve our mission
The three main strategies we will implement to achieve the above is outlined as
follows:
A. Creating a consistent and unified CULTURE that will become synonymous with
our name NBCCY/Agape. In everything we do, we will endeavour to forge a
culture that promotes:
甲、Open, honest and transparent communication and dialogue between
everyone;
乙、A balanced Christian lifestyle between church, family, work and study;
丙、Mutual support between members; and
丁、Mutual accountability to each other for our assigned tasks/responsibilities.
B. INTERNAL Consolidation and Integration. This means:
甲、More specialization in what each member does in NBCCY, to increase
efficiency;
乙、More effort in caring and mentoring of one another;
丙、Consolidation and Restructure of our NBCCY leadership;
丁、More integration and interaction with our Chinese Fellowship, and other
parts of the wider Northcote Baptist network (e.g. the evening youth
congregation);
戊、Rigorous internal training and teaching, as well as nurturing new leaders
within each cell group.
己、Promote deeper friendship outside church walls, to influence and build
lasting commitment to NBCCY; and
庚、Detailed succession planning.
C. EXTERNAL Outreach and Growth. This means:
甲、Running few more events to attract our target audience;
乙、More involvement and working in our local community and schools;
丙、Shaping and improving how we preach and spread the Christian message;
丁、Consistent branding of what we want NBCCY/Agape to mean to others.
